when your mates are out of town, and you need them when you’re down, you gotta hang on, it’s still a lovely day.

Happy birthday to one of my favourite SNL cast members, actors and probably the most successful improviser to come out of Second City LA, Bill Hader.

Best of Season 38 ~ Best Overall Cast Member: Bill Hader
Bill gave us 8 great seasons of creative, wonderful comedy on Saturday Night Live.  It was definitely sad to see him go, but at least he’s leaving on a high note.  He was equally great with his impressions as he was with his characters.  But more than that, just like with Jimmy Fallon, he made it okay to break character and laugh during sketches.  A long time ago, it was an unwritten rule that you don’t laugh during sketches.  You could just really tell he was out there to have fun each Saturday night, even if it he did laugh, we all knew that he still kept the sketch going but was having fun out there and we were going along for the ride with him.  There will never be another Bill Hader on this show, but maybe that’s a good thing.  Why would anyone want to try to live up to what he did on the show? That person would never live up to that expectation and would be just an imitator.  Bill sure didn’t try to be Darrell Hammond, instead he paved his own path to success.  I will always be glad that I got to watch Bill from day one until his last night.  I’ll definitely sure to be watching the day he comes to host too.
Runners-Up: Taran Killam, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Bobby Moynihan, Fred Armisen
